McKenzie was born and raised in the suburbs of Seattle on the heels of a grunge wave sweeping the Pacific Northwest. Her interest in local alternative music and culture inspired a series of bad emo haircuts, but also pushed her into the arts. She studied photography as an undergrad before moving to Brooklyn, New York, where she now resides.
McKenzie strives to connect with her subjects, making space for them to lead with their innate energy and movement. She allows what is unique and special in an individual to bubble to the surface and attempts to capture that on camera. She uses thoughtful framing and splashes of color to enhance and support but never overwhelm her subjects. The resulting images convey the authentic expressions of joy and feeling that define McKenzie’s work.
McKenzie has extensive experience shooting for top skincare, cosmetics, haircare, and fashion brands. She is a champion of authenticity and loves to partner with clients that similarly value and prioritize equal representation. She takes seriously the responsibility of creating a safe and inclusive work environment and surrounds herself with team members that are as nice as they are talented.
